I admire Kim Stanley Robinson's work. I admit his attention to detail drives me mad at times! But his ability to imagine the future of what our world may be is second to none. 2312 is a novel all hard scifi fans should read.
I spent a few hours at the memorial in Melbourne. Using its words - not just an account for loss, but a celebration of courage, endurance, duty, love of country, mateship, good humour, survival, a sense of self worth and a decency in the face of dreadful odds. Powerful words and a moving memorial. Lest we forget.
